Editing an Existing Approximation

Once you have created an approximation, you can use the Approximation Wizard to edit the approximation’s configuration options in the Design Gateway and in the Runtime Gateway.

Important: If you are selecting a component that is in a Task Plan, you must select the component using the model explorer.

  1. Do one of the following:

    • From the Design Gateway,

      1. Select the component for which you want to create an approximation:
        • Select a component on the Sim-flow tab or in the model explorer, and click the Approximations button on the component title bar.
        • Right-click the component on the Sim-flow tab or in the model explorer, and select Approximations.

        The Approximations dialog box appears.

      2. In the Activated column, select the approximation that you want to edit.
      3. On the right side of the dialog box, click Edit.

        The Approximation Wizard appears.

    • From the Runtime Gateway,

      1. Select a component on the Sim-flow tab or in the model explorer.
      2. Click the Visual Design tab, and select the approximation from the list next to the component title bar.
      3. Click the button.

        The Approximation Wizard appears.

  2. If desired, you can change the name and creation mode of the approximation by clicking Back.

  3. Depending on the type of approximation you are editing, refer to one of the following sections for information on editing the specific options:

The remainder of this section discusses options that appear on the Approximation Wizard only when editing an existing approximation.

  4. Click Next.

  5. If the approximation you are editing has already been initialized and you have not changed any parameter settings on the Input and Output Parameters screen, determine if you want to preserve or remove existing sampling data.

    1. From the Sampling Data Set screen that appears, select one of the following options:

      • Use existing sampling data. This option is not available if the approximation has been edited to require more points.
      • Preserve existing sampling data and generate additional points.
      • Delete existing sampling data and generate a new data set.

    2. Click Next.

  6. Continue to use the Approximation Wizard to set the options appropriate to the type of approximation that you are editing. For more information, refer to Creating Approximations, Creating User-Defined Approximations, or Creating Approximations Using a Coefficient File.

  7. Click Finish.

  8. If you decided to not use the existing sampling data or you made changes that require calculating new coefficients, you can re-initialize the approximation.
