Setting Folder Permissions

If you are connected to a SIMULIA Execution Engine, you can set access permissions on folders and objects in the Isight library. You can determine which users can view and modify the folders and the objects and folders beneath them. By using folder permissions, you can configure your library similar to a file system, providing Isight users with both shared and private spaces.

Before you begin: You must have ALTER permission on a folder to set permissions for other users on that folder. You have ALTER permission on any folder you create.
  1. From the View menu, select Library or click the Library button on the Design Gateway toolbar.

  2. Select the folder for which you want to set permissions, right-click, and select Folder Permissions.

Note: Some items that appear in the directory are not folders. If you select one of these items, no menu appears. If you select Library in the directory, the permissions you set for the Library are applied to all top-level folders and published objects.

The Folder Access Control List appears showing the permissions for the selected folder.

  3. Click Add to add a new permissions setting.

Note: You cannot edit an existing permission setting. Instead, you need to delete it and recreate it.

  4. In the Managed Name column, enter a name for the user or group whose permissions you are setting.

  5. Click in the Permissions column, and select the type of permission from the list that appears:

    Option Description
ALTER Select to give the user or group full access to the folder, including editing the folder’s permissions. The user or group has full access to any folder or published object beneath this folder. The user or group can publish new objects directly under this folder and can edit properties and permissions of existing objects or delete objects.
MODIFY Select to give the user or group all the accessibility granted with the ALTER option, with the exception of editing the folder’s permissions.
READ Select to allow the user or group to see this folder and any folder or published object beneath it. The user or group cannot publish new objects or delete existing objects directly under this folder, but they can edit properties and permissions of such objects if they have sufficient object permissions.
NONE Select to give the user or group no access to this folder nor to any objects or folders under this folder. The folder is not displayed in the library.

  6. Click in the Represents column, and determine if the name specified in the Managed Name column represents an individual user or a predefined group:

    Option Description
USER Select to specify a particular user name for the permission you are defining.
GROUP Select to specify a group of users to share the permission you are defining, instead of creating a permission for each user.

  7. In the All other users list, set folder permissions for all other users (except those explicitly defined). The options available are the same as those described in Step 5.

  8. Arrange the listed users, as desired.

You can use the Up or Down buttons to move a user up or down in the list. The selected user’s settings move up or down one line. The order of the list is important because a user name may appear in one or more groups as well as by itself. Therefore, it is possible for a user to be assigned more than one permission for the same folder. If a user has multiple permissions, Isight uses the permission closest to the top of the list to determine the user’s actual permission for the folder.

You can click Delete to remove a user name from the list.

  9. Click OK to save your changes and to return to the Isight library.
