Managing section assignments

The Section Assignment Manager allows you to view, create, edit, suppress, resume, and delete section assignments. The manager lists section assignments in the order of creation and displays the section name, section type, material name, and region associated with each section assignment. In the Property module, Abaqus/CAE colors a region green to indicate that the region has a section assignment or, if there are overlapping section assignments, colors the region yellow.

Note:

The order of assignments may be relevant; when section assignments overlap, the last assignment will take precedence.

  1. From the main menu bar, select SectionAssignment Manager.

  2. From the bottom of the manager, choose from the following:

    • If you want to create a new section assignment, click Create and follow the procedure described in Assigning a section. The new section assignment appears in the manager.

    • If you want to edit a section assignment, select the section assignment in the manager and click Edit. The Edit Section Assignment dialog box appears, and the region to which the section is currently assigned is highlighted in the viewport.

      1. If desired, select a different section for the section assignment.

      2. Click to select a new region for the section assignment.

      3. Select the region from the viewport or from a list of existing sets, and click mouse button 2 to indicate that you have finished selecting.

      4. Click OK to close the Edit Section Assignment dialog box.

    • If you want to delete a section assignment, select the section assignment in the manager and click Delete.

  3. In the left column of the manager, click a green check mark to suppress a section assignment or click a red “X” to resume a suppressed section assignment.

    Note:

    Suppressing and resuming a connector section assignment will suppress or resume the corresponding connector orientation.

    Abaqus/CAE updates the color of the selected part or region to reflect the revised section assignment status.

  4. Click Dismiss to close the Section Assignment Manager dialog box.
