Understanding Database Limitations

The local database used with Isight must be a single-computer, single-user database.

Isight does not support a shared, networked database that is accessible by more than one user. This limitation includes the scenario where a single user attempts to write to the same local database from two different computers. The database can be accessed only from the same computer by the same user who originally created the database as specified in Specifying Database Options.

For multiple-user operating systems, contact your SIMULIA representative for more information.

Important: Any attempt to access a local Isight database as a different user or as the original user from a different computer will corrupt the database, making the data unrecoverable. If you need shared database access, you must use Isight with a SIMULIA Execution Engine. For more information on upgrading to a SIMULIA Execution Engine, contact your SIMULIA representative.

Isight does not support execution using two different database directories at the same time. This limitation applies only if multiple instances of Isight are open and at least two instances specify different database locations. The following scenario demonstrates this limitation:

  1. You start Isight, which has a default database location specified as described in Specifying Database Options.
  2. Without closing the Isight instance opened in Step 1, you open another Isight instance (Design Gateway or Runtime Gateway).
  3. From this second instance, you change the database location as described in Specifying Database Options.

The two instances are now using different database locations.

  4. You restart the second Isight instance after changing the database settings (as instructed by the interface). Despite restarting this second instance, the Isight database settings revert back to those defined by the initial instance, which was started in Step 1.

The changes made to the second instance (the new database location) will not take effect until both instances are closed. Once both Isight instances are closed, the new database settings will appear when Isight is restarted.
